Comfort
Foods
For some of us….
Food is center of our lives.
Food is tied to my every memory and emotion throughout our
life.
Food triggers the fondest memories from
our childhood.
Food warms our hearts and fills our
souls…
AT this recipe group, we chose a very
traditional southern comfort meal.
However, while discussing these common dishes, everyone began to share
their own heritage and background. Which is nothing but common. We learned a
lot about our fellow sisters and this brought us closer together.

Taco
Soup
Made by Maeve Lynch
Sister
Lynch received this from a nurse that she worked with. She no longer works with her, but this recipe
reminds Sister Lynch of her dear friend every time she makes it….
Sautee one onion in
skillet and ground meat (beef or turkey). Drain and set aside. You can leave
out the meat and just add an extra can of beans – any kind
Add canned goods
to pot without draining (I usually make this in a crock pot, but you can cook
it on top of the stove-just until it heats through)
All cans apprx 16 oz
1 can corn – or
equiv amount of frozen
1 can stewed tomatoes
1 can rotel
1 can pinto beans with
jalapeno (I can’t find these, so I put in a regular can of pinto beans and a
small can of chopped jalapeno)
1 can Texas ranch
style beans
1 can dark kidney
beans
1pkg taco seasoning
1 pkg dry ranch salad
dressing
Add up to 1 cup of
water to obtain desired consistency
Everything is already
cooked – just heat through

Tea
Made by Ellen Welch
Don’t
worry! This recipe contains no tea. Sister Welch told us a funny story.
When she was young, she was
working at a drive thru restaurant. Someone came through and asked for a cup a
black coffee and Sister Welch innocently told the man that they did not have
black coffee just brown…..:) How incredibly sweet and innocent….
